INTRODUCTION TO ASIAN BRUSH CALLIGRAPHY

Students will be introduced to Asian brush calligraphy, an ancient art form that evolved after the invention of handmade paper in 105 AD. Students will learn to work with the traditional tools of bamboo brush and sumi
(ink). In addition to Asian characters, students will learn to write their names in Japanese.
About the Artist
Lois Yoshida turned her focus to a long-held interest in art after earning degrees in medical technology and microbiology from the University of Washington. She has studied with both a well-known master sumi-e
artist in the Northwest as well as a master calligrapher. Lois’ award-winning paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibits and juried shows in the Northwest and internationally.
