The hippie culture of the late 1960s and 70s ushered in a mix of Bohemian style and medieval fashion nods – asserting individuality with rich colors, patterns, and fabrics.  American youth were reading Tolkien, wearing their grandmother’s silk scarves, and dipping their toes in metaphysical philosophies. They were emulating the new bastions of Boho culture, the mythical folk heroes known as rock stars.

From the medieval period to the Romani people, jumping from the stage at Woodstock to the White River Valley Museum – Auburn is going Boho this summer. In partnership with the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle and Scorpio Rising Vintage in Tacoma the Museum will display Boho fashions worn in the late 60s and 70s as well as three stage costume worn by Mamma Cass, Stevie Nicks, and Janis Joplin.

And let’s not forget the medieval ties -- the history and relevance of this trend will be illuminated by the Museum’s co-curator Avery Trufelman who is the host and producer of the podcast Articles of Interest, named one of the best podcasts of the year by the New Yorker, The New York Times, and the Atlantic. Listen to the Articles of Interest wherever you get your podcasts or on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6XKe8xy5P16OLrkBW9oz0k

Come to the museum this summer to immerse yourself in Bohemian vibes, learn about fashion, see something worn by an actual rockstar and possibly get some inspo for your next festival fit.
