Frances Willard, second and most influential president of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union, popularized the “Home Protection” strategy in the women’s suffrage movement which advocated for women to gain the vote in order to protect their domestic charges from the evils of alcohol, drugs, sex work, and other “vices” as defined by the WCTU.
