Spotlight: Al Smith
Albert “Al” Smith (1914-2008) was a visionary Black photographer who documented the Seattle area with his work, such as the early Seattle jazz scene and African American immigration from the 1940s-60s. His photography captured the identities and daily lives of Seattle’s growing Black community and neighborhoods, which experienced frequent racism that still exists in our region today. Click here to learn more about him from another awesome local museum, MOHAI, at their website.
