Newspaper Article Activity
Click here to download and use a simple newspaper page template for kids.
Use the template to write about what current events in your community or personal life matter to you. What’s going on at school? How is your favorite sports team doing this season? Are there any new games or books coming out soon that you’re looking forward to? Choose something that is interesting to you!
For younger children, have them draw a scene or object that represents an event or story while caretakers help write about what the drawing represents.

Spotlight: Ida B. Wells
Born into slavery during the Civil War, Ida B. Wells-Barnett (1862-1931) was an African American journalist and activist who used her writing to describe the experience of African Americans in the South. She battled constant criticism for being a woman and racism that threatened her life, but she stood determined in her vision as a writer to protest and advocate for Black liberation.
