Mary Church Terrell, c. 1910

Women in clubs learned how to organize and use their networks to effect change. Mary Church Terrell, co-founder of the National Association of Colored Women, used her connections from her time as a student at Oberlin to advocate for both Black equality and women’s suffrage through multiple organizations. She went on to be a founding member of the NAACP.
