The women’s suffrage movement grew out of earlier moralist movements, especially the abolition movement. Suffragists and their allies, including Frederick Douglass, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Lucy Stone formed networks and shared liberation-centered philosophies with each other through anti-slavery work and organizations.
